Ferry Building

ferry building San Francisco's historic ferry building has been remodeled and is now the home of the Farmer's Market and some permanent market shops, cafes, and restaurants. Until the late 1930's when the bridges were built, the Ferry building served as the principal entry into the city. Its 240-foot clock tower, modeled after the 12th century bell tower in Seville, has been the San Francisco waterfront icon for more than 100 years. Developers spent nearly $90 million to renovate the building, which withstood both major earthquakes, and turn it into what they hope will become a thriving food center.

Ferry Building Marketplace, re-opened to the public in mid-2003 after a multi-year renovation project, promises to be one of the city's liveliest venues as its shops fill with local artisan food shops and restaurants, and tourists mix with locals at the weekly Farmers' markets.
